SIMI VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL
The SVHS Dance Team is a place for students who are passionate about dance and choreography, have a background in dance experience and technical training, or have a desire to perform and showcase their art at SVHS events and activities. Offering 5 levels of dance in the styles of tap, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, contemporary, ballet, musical theater, and more, there is a space for everyone to dance on the SVHS Dance Team! The dance team was started in 2015 and has grown from a club of 45 students to have full-time schedule, offering 5 levels of training to over 200 students.
All dance classes count as PE credit in the student’s first two years, and a fine art the second two years. Dance classes at SVHS are also part of the performing arts pathway, which means that students have a chance to earn pathway completion certificates for a special recognition at graduation, as well as making them eligible for more opportunities in the area of performing arts post high school. Students participating in any level of dance class for two or more years will be considered a pathway completer. In addition, students in their 3rd and 4th year in dance will receive an extra point in their GPA for participating in an ROP course. Please see the “map” of classes below for an example of pathway completion, ROP courses, and credit if you are entering the dance program as a 9th grade student in the Fall of 2024.
